Vocal Nodules

Category: Voice Disorders

What are Vocal Nodules?
Vocal nodules, also known as singer’s nodules or calluses of the vocal cords, are benign growths that develop due to repetitive strain or misuse of the voice. These nodules commonly affect individuals who use their voice extensively, such as singers, teachers, and public speakers.

Causes of Vocal Nodules

  • Excessive shouting or speaking loudly
  • Poor vocal hygiene
  • Chronic throat clearing or coughing
  • Acid reflux (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux - LPR)
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption

Diagnosis and Treatment
At Dr. Sachin Goel’s Clinic, we use advanced diagnostic tools like laryngoscopy and stroboscopy to examine the vocal cords and detect nodules.

Treatment options include:

  • Voice Therapy: Speech-language therapy helps in proper voice modulation and prevents further strain.
  • Lifestyle Modifications: Avoiding smoking, staying hydrated, and managing acid reflux can help recovery.
  • Medications: Antacids or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may be prescribed if acid reflux contributes to nodules.
  • Surgical Removal: In severe cases, microsurgical excision may be recommended to remove persistent nodules.

If you are experiencing voice issues or discomfort, visit Dr. Sachin Goel’s Clinic, for expert evaluation and treatment.
